Make and Handfinish a Cutting Board
Make and Handfinish a Cutting Board
Saturday and Sunday 4/25-6, 1-5pm
Good objects begin with care, not complexity.
This two-day class guides students through the complete process of making a functional cutting board, from stock selection to final finish. The focus is on thoughtful layout, clean execution, and surface preparation that rewards daily use.
Rather than rushing to an end product, students will learn how small decisions compound into quality. The result is a durable, food-safe board and a deeper understanding of foundational woodworking skills.
You’ll learn to:
Select appropriate wood for functional kitchenware
Lay out and glue up a stable blank
Shape and refine edges by hand
Prepare surfaces for food-safe finishes
Apply and maintain traditional oil finishes
Who it’s for: All skill levels. Especially good for those new to woodworking or seeking to slow down and refine fundamentals.
Ezra Gardiner is a furniture maker and educator focused on traditional methods, hand skills, and building objects meant to live long, useful lives.
