Shaker Tape Seat Weaving
Shaker Tape Seat Weaving
Saturday 10/3/26, 1-5pm
Before the seat is woven, a chair is just a promise.
This focused class teaches traditional Shaker tape weaving techniques used in historic seating. Students will learn pattern, tension, and pacing—skills that demand attention and reward care. Students will be provided a small antique chair needing a repair. We'll make the repair and you can take the chair home! You can also feel free to bring your own chair to seat, contact us before registering if so.
You’ll learn to:
Prepare chair frames for weaving
Weave traditional Shaker patterns
Control tension and alignment
Finish and secure seats properly
Repair worn seating
Who it’s for: All skill levels. Particularly useful for furniture makers and restorers.
Ezra Gardiner is a furniture maker and educator focused on traditional methods, hand skills, and building objects meant to live long, useful lives.
